Butaritari Road Rehabilitation EIA Report & Public Awareness

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy (MISE) recently released an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report for the Butaritari Road Rehabilitation project. This report, conducted in accordance with the Environmental Act of 2021 and Environmental Regulations of 2017, is available for public reference at several locations: the MISE office in Betio, the Ministry of Environment, Lands, and Agricultural Development, the National Library, and the Butaritari Island Council.

Last week, the MISE team conducted public awareness sessions on Butaritari Island, visiting Maneaba from Kuuma Village to Ukiangang Village to outline the potential environmental impacts of the road rehabilitation project. The team discussed various environmental concerns, including noise and air pollution, water contamination, and erosion, and they provided mitigation measures to address these impacts.

During these sessions, villagers shared their concerns about the environmental effects and other issues that may arise during the rehabilitation process. They also submitted their requests, considering that the road work is set to begin soon.

Career Fair 2024

The Ministry of Infrastructure and Sustainable Energy (MISE) Joint Awareness Taskforce participated in the Career Fair event hosted by the Ministry of Women, Youth, Sport and Social Welfare at the Sport Complex on July 31st. The event featured more than ten stakeholders, including government ministries, government SOEs, the New Zealand High Commission, and the Australian High Commission, among others. During the opening ceremony, Human Resource Officer Mrs Rubetara Metutera provided a brief induction to introduce the MISE office.

The main purpose of the event was to provide High School students from Form 6 and Form 7 with an opportunity to tour and gather information that would aid them in making future academic and career decisions as they prepare for further studies at universities. Students from various schools, including King George V & Elaine Bernacchi School, Moroni High School, Santa Maria College, St. Patrick, and William Goward High School, and many more attended the event.

The Joint Awareness Taskforce seized the opportunity to showcase MISE services through presentations, tool demonstrations, and information about potential work opportunities within the Ministry. They highlighted career paths in fields such as engineering, architecture, electricians, carpentry, plumbing, and more. The Joint Awareness Team included the ICT Public Relations Officer, representatives from various divisions, and members from the two Project Management Units—the South Tarawa Sanitation Project and the South Tarawa Water Supply Project.
